Tatum Sherman – Becoming A Fashion Designer

Tatum Sherman enjoyed shopping and modeling as a young girl and her interest in clothing and the fashion industry turned professional as she got older. She attended fashion design school in New Jersey and now has her own clothing line called TS Fashion. If you have dreams of becoming a fashion designer, there are several things you need to do to reach your goals.

Obtain A Bachelor’s Degree

There are many two-year degree programs offered in the fashion world, but if you really want to learn as much about the industry as possible, you need to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree. Choose your college carefully and make sure you keep in mind the internship opportunities that each college has to offer. You want to have as many connections as possible.

Create A Portfolio

During fashion design school you will create many designs and you should keep them in your portfolio. Many college programs require a portfolio and it will come in handy when you show your designs to others or need to look back for inspiration. Your portfolio should demonstrate how versatile you are as a designer and should contain a variety of different sketches. Your portfolio will also come in handy if you attend graduate school or if you plan to apply for an internship with another designer, store, or company.

Gain Some Experience

You need to learn how to work in the fashion industry if you plan to become a fashion designer. You should participate in an internship. You may even want to try more than one. You will work on different levels of the industry and may have a chance to make some important connections during your internship and many fashion designers go on to work with the companies and designers they interned with during or after college.

Entry Level Job

No matter what your plans are, you will have to start somewhere and most fashion designers start with entry level positions. You may want to create your own clothing line, but it is still a good idea to get some experience working in another store or with a designer who has recently launched a clothing line. You will be able to look back on your experience and use the knowledge and skills you learned at your first job. They may come in handy when you create your own clothing line or open your own boutique.

There are many people who dream of becoming fashion designers, but not many of them are able to make it happen. If you think you have what it takes and can become as successful as Tatum Sherman, the above tips can help you earn a degree that can help you in your career.

Tatum Sherman – Designing A Clothing Line

Tatum Sherman attended fashion school in New Jersey and had dreams of starting her own clothing line. She began designing casual clothing and swimsuits and now has a complete line of clothing for women and children. She calls her clothing line TS Fashion and is very proud of it. She hopes to continue to grow it. If you have dreams of doing the same, read on for tips and advice.

Have A Plan

You need to have a plan for your clothing line. This should pertain to the type of clothing you plan to design, who it will be designed for and what stores it will be sold in. Do you want to design clothing for women, children or men? Do you want to design casual clothing or clothing that will be worn by movie stars on the red carpet? You need to make sure your plan is as detailed as possible and you should keep notes when necessary.

Sketch

You should start sketching your clothing designs as soon as possible. Many designers start creating their sketches before they even attend design school. You may decide to change them as you learn more about design and your market and you can always add to your portfolio. Your sketches will also come in handy when you present your idea for a clothing line to a store or company.

Create A Business

You will need to create a business name and logo for your clothing line and register it as a business. This will allow you to market the clothing line and sell the pieces. You will also need to come up with a budget and get a firm understanding of startup costs. Once your design has a name, you will also need to find a manufacturer who will be able to create the pieces you design so you can sell them.

Market Your Line

If you want people to know about your clothing line, you need to be able to advertise it successfully. You should decide how you want to advertise your clothing line and start doing so as soon as you register it as a business. If you plan to sell your clothing online, you will want to do a lot more online marketing. If you are going to sell your clothing from a store, you may want to create ads and also advertise online.

Tatum Sherman worked hard to get her first line of clothing in stores and now she looks forward to seeing people wear it on the streets. She is happy to be able to do what she loves and to see people enjoying the clothing she designs.
